Lonely, Dear
Since last post I have:
- not had to worry about school
- hung out with the gang quite a lot
- …somehow had my debit card info stolen online resulting in a $3,000 attempted Western Union wire transfer from my bank account, which obviously didn’t go through since I’m a poor college student
- Cancelled that transaction after much hassel
- Closed my account and opened a new one
- Had to battle to keep my classes from being dropped for next semester b/c my recent check written to hold the classes obviously bounced since I was newly $2000+ in debt
- Deal with my car slowly dying on me, which *knock on wood* we’ll see if it can make it home without breaking down on me
So yeah. Sorry about not posting in a while, but my plate’s been plenty full. Luckily, the people trying to steal all my money chose poorly by choosing poor little me, and most likely just moved on to their next victim once the transaction didn’t go through. So now I’m back to doing basically nothing, even though I’m sort of stranded in Springfield with Keith, who has to work most the break, and I’m left slightly bored. I think I’ll just sit and write some more songs, read books, and play video games. Let’s get to the music shall we?
Lonely, Dear

I hadn’t looked at Sub Pop’s upcoming lineup in a while so I decided today’s as good a day as any to update my Sub Pop knowledge. Early 2007 finds new releases from the Shins, which I imagine you already knew about, but also of Lonely, Dear’s album Lonely, Noir, released February 6th, as well as Low’s new one Drums and Guns, which I’m really excited about and is released March 20th.
But it’s Lonely, Dear I want to talk about today. I’ve merely heard the song “The City, The Airport” the whole way through and I was hooked. Emil Svanen is the man behind this one man band which consists of nine rotating members. He records nearly everything in his little apartment studio in Sweden and simply plays shows and sells his music on CD-R’s which he apparantly has sold a few thousand copies of. This must’ve caught Johnathan’s attention over at Sub Pop, because they snatched him up and I’m excited that he’s joined the Sub Pop family. His music has somewhat of a folk-pop feel with a mini-orchestra behind him. You can hear the majority of the album at his site under the songs section as minute long clips. His myspace has three songs from the new album in their entirety. I did manage to find “The City, The Airport” in its entirety, which is easily the best introduction to Lonely, Dear. And thanks to the powers that be over at Pitchfork, there’s also a remix of the song done by my favorite Brazilian dance troop CSS which is simply excellent and changes the song completely without losing the intial happiness of the song. I’d list all the amazing music that’s coming our way in 2007, but honestly it’d take too long. I couldn’t be more excited for new stuff from bands such as Cloud Cult, John Vanderslice, and Modest Mouse to name a very few amount of upcoming huge releases, but it’s great to know little bands like Lonely, Dear will still shine next year amongst the giants of indie rock. I personally can’t wait for Lonely, Noir come February, as well as the entire 2007 Sub Pop lineup.

Weekly Office Episode
The Office S03E10 – A Benihana Christmas
One of the best episodes of the season, and unfortunately the last one of the fall season. The scene where he can’t tell which Asian girl is his current “girlfriend” is hilarious. I guess we’ll just have to wait eagerly for the Spring season to come around.
