Not to brag or anything, but yours truly is now in Technorati’s top 1 million blogs at a stunning 944,869! Boo yah! Pretty soon I’ll be breaking the 800,000 mark and the top 10 a little after that.
All sarcasm aside, I still find myself with no internet, but the blogging must go on. Here’s some juicy links from around the music filled interweb.
- New Andrew Bird song! - Heretics
- The Torture Garden’s best songs of 2006.
Which led me to find the first album I know I’ll love, but missed in ‘06 somehow in Peter & the Wolf’s album Lightness. This list is just great and full of so many good songs. Besides “Safe Travels” by P&tW, some other new songs to me were Snowden’s “Anti Anti”, My Latest Novel’s “The Reputation of Ross Francis”, and The Butterfly Explosion’s “Sophia”. I’d recommend every song on this list, but those were some that I’d not heard before. Oh yeah, the only reason I found out about this list was b/c The Toaster Talks posted Hot Chip’s acoustic version of “Boy from School” from that list, so he gets a link here as well.
Peter & the Wolf - Safe Travels
Snowden - Anti Anti
My Latest Novel - The Reputation of Ross Francis
The Butterfly Explosion - Sophia
- The Worker’s Institute
Sigur Ros, Amiina, Peter & the Wolf, Johann Johannsson, My Latest Novel, and Anthony Burr & Skuli Sverrisson - The city of Boston panicked and arrested two little ad gopher boys working for Cartoon Network b/c they put up L.E.D. promos of the Mooninites to promote the new Aquateen Hungerforce movie. You Ain’t No Picasso sums it up best and makes a mini-bomb mix as well. The craziest part of this story is not that they thought these little things were bombs, but that my mom was the first to tell me about it. When did she become more hip than me?

- Metacritic’s list of upcoming albums of 2007. Now you can tell why I said 2006 was a bit underwhelming. I knew all these albums were around the corner the following year.
Spoon, Pinback, Postal Service, Sigur Ros, Metric, Okkervil River, Bright Eyes, Rilo Kiley, John Vanderslice, Patrick Wolf, Wolf Parade, The Wrens, Andrew Bird, Cloud Cult, The New Pornographers, Jimmy Eat World, Iron & Wine, Islands, Final Fantasy, Britt Daniel solo, Cursive, Beirut, Animal Collective and so many more…even a Chris Walla solo album (aka the guitarist for Deathcab). I’m curious to hear that one.
Chris Walla - Dave Narcizo
- Seattle Weekly interviews Menomena. Two of my favorite things (Seattle and Menomena) in one post.
- Rogue Wave’s drummer Pat Spurgeon got his kidney transplant finally. You may have heard how he was in pretty bad shape but didn’t have health insurance, but a few benefit shows later and their loyal following helped out more than they could have ever imagined. It’s a shame I couldn’t get to any of those shows.
- James Mercer of the Shins talks to the Age about the “Garden State” effect (link found through Largehearted Boy)
