The Pelican’s Perch

I don’t know if I’ll make it out to this one tonight, but it does sound intriguing.  Under Byen (pronounced Oh’nah-Boon) has been described by Rolling Stone as “possibly the best band in the world”.  Rolling Stone’s lost a lot of credibility in my mind over the year, so I don’t exactly trust their best band rec’s too much any more, but I’ve heard Under Byen’s album and it’s not too bad.  Think of a collaboration between Notwist and an underwhelming Sigur Ros with Bjork fronting the band.  Of course, pretty much any semi-instrumental band is going to sound underwhelming when compared to Sigur Ros’ epic soundscapes.  Under Byen’s album is full of all kinds of possibilities, but in the end it just felt like it could’ve been so much more.  They’re playing with Frida Hyvonen.  It’ll be the most different sounding music of all the nights for sure.
