Eluvium – “Copia”

Eluvium’s Matthew Cooper makes the closest thing to Max Richter’s beautiful modern classical style I’ve probably ever heard. I stumbled across the epically beautiful “Prelude for Time Feelers” while browsing the artists on Temporary Residence and listened to nothing else the rest of the day. I know little of Matthew or his music, but according to his bio on the label’s site, this newest effort in Copia is his first without traditional rock instruments. The few songs available on the site from his past albums do prove that he liked using soaring background guitar landscapes. I’d have to say he made a great move getting rid of guitars and focusing mainly on orchestral instruments.
Copia probably won’t be everyone’s cup of tea, but it’s great to put on after a long day and just relax to. If you like classical music, both old and new, such as Max Richter, then you’ll really enjoy Eluvium. I listened to it for four hours straight today without realizing it as I worked on homework and writing my latest article for the school paper. Plus, the album art fits perfectly with his music. This is modern classical at it’s best. Now all I need are Matthew Cooper and Max Richter to collaborate.
Check him out on tour now with Explosions in the Sky.
