The Strangest Habit (a new song)
10,000 page views this year so far. Pretty crazy and here’s a big thanks to everyone that reads my blog every day. Anyway…
My friend Adam threw some lyrics my way he’d written and couldn’t put a tune to and let me take a shot at it and this is what I came up with. Let me know what you think.
EDIT: Experimented a bit and added a capo to change the range of singing. Both versions are below. Tell me which you think sounds best.
The Strangest Habit (capo’d version)

he stares down an alley every day of his life
on his way home from work to his kids and his wife
(is he) looking for someone, looking for something, desperately waiting to feel alive?
nothing happens. thirty minutes go by
the strangest habit, every day, same time.
does he know that i am watching
from a window across the street?
could it be that I am like him,
wanting more than my routine?
a half an hour wasted waiting, wondering why
hoping what he’s missing he might actually find
(am i) crazy for thinking that i need the feeling of constantly wanting so much more?
nothing happens. and thirty days go by
the strangest habit, every day, same time.
a month of this says something
neither one has made our peace
but standing here does nothing
and routine becomes disease
routine becomes disease
the man kept searching and eventually died
never getting what he wanted, going out of his mind
its time for change. its time for anything
half my life wasted, waiting, wondering why
hoping what i’m missing i might actually find
nothing happens. then thirty years go by
the strangest habit eating me up inside
i cant…..end up…..like him
staring down that empty alley
maybe…..one day…..i will find it
whatever it may be
