The Western States Motel
The Western States Motel is Carl Jordan’s one man band. I received his self titled album today and it couldn’t have come at a better time. I’m at the tail end of being sick. I’m exhausted from this week where I worked most the week staying up late nights on our final presentation and capped it all off today with an eight hour day working with my uncle mixing concrete and lifting all sorts of heavy things. So the first calm strum of Jordan’s guitar that I heard once I put his cd on was a very welcome one. I purposely go into most promos blind mainly to avoid any preconceptions and this one caught me off guard. Had I been in any other state, I may not have stuck it out through the whole album, but I just laid in bed after work and let the album play. Then I let it repeat once more, and then I just let it play on repeat the rest of the night.
It wasn’t until about the fourth listen through that I began looking for stand out songs. It’s the kind of relaxed album that floats by harmlessly in the background if you’re busy, or engages you most the way through if you’re not. I searched the blogs to get people’s opinions on The Western States Motel and it was overwhelmingly positive. I found basically the entire album throughout the blogs, and also found that one of Jordan’s songs was on the OC. Whoo! It seems Carl Jordan has been under my radar but not everyone else’s. He even was recently featured at Spin.com. I like how they describe his music best. It’s like a mint on your pillow at the end of the night: low-key, unexpected, and sweet. I’d have to agree.

P.S. New movie reviews up. Most recently Disturbia. I absolutely do not ever hide links to the movies online within each review. Ever. I swear. So don’t go looking……….Do I really need to add the *wink wink*?

Oh yes. Thanks a lot for not including the links, I’d hate to be tempted.
And I’ve really enjoyed the music lately. Unfortunately I won’t be able to catch your next radio show, but you wait, I will listen to it!
Hope you get better soon.
