For some reason I was decently excited when this movie stumbled into my lap. I expected it to be predictable, and I was hoping it wouldn’t be another Phone Booth, but I ended up being plesantly surprised by the end. I’m not here to convince anyone to go see this, because I’m sure the majority of you are shrugging your shoulders and pshhht’ing even the thought of seeing this movie, but the following is for the very few of you out there that grew up on movies and can handle a decent thriller with no point every once and a while.
Shia LaBeouf is the main reason this movie worked at all with his usual jittery acting style fitting nicely with playing a kid under house arrest while a possible mass murderer is next door and still active. If you’ve seen D.J. Caruso’s other film of this sort, Taking Lives, then you can imagine the style in which this movie is shot.
Initially the movie starts out slow and I almost turned it off, since I was watching it in my room, but stuck around after a break to play soccer and was glad I did. Was I right with my prediction as to what would happen, kind of. Was it a good movie, kind of. All you need to know is that Shia is good in it, and this is a decent sign because he looks to be in about every other movie released this year, including the new Transformers movie. Are casting directors really unable to find anyone but Shia and that kid from the Apple Commercials, and more importantly the TV show Ed, to play the lead late teens/early 20’s male part in all the big movies. Just wondering, because Apple kid is in the new Die Hard this summer as well.
Anyway, back to the review. It was a mindless thriller and a good date movie. Do you really need much more? You know if you’re the kind of person that was going to see this anyway, and if you’re not there’s no use complaining about how bad you think it is. I think it’s good and that should mean something to a few of you. Plus, how can you complain when the link to the movie may or may not be hidden somewhere in this review? That’s what I thought. You didn’t hear that from me though
