That was it?! That’s what I said when the credits started rolling at this end of this surprisingly boring movie. With Morgan Freeman and John Cusack, I figured Freeman’s interaction as the bad guy with Cusack’s good guy would bring about some great dialogue and emotional intensity like they’re both known for, but all I got out of it was what the basic plot was, then a somewhat interesting ending.
The plot basically goes that Freeman is a hired mercenary with a spotless record, being hired to kill high profile targets and has yet to fail. One of his recent plans is somewhat foiled by unfortunate circumstances and he ends up in jail. Of course, while being transported to wherever in the police van, his hencemen break him out. Only that doesn’t exactly work out either and Freeman ends up going over a cliff into a river with the police officer and Cusack, the dad finally spending time with his son like he never had before, pulls both Freeman and the cop out of the water. “Don’t let him escape” says the officer, and apparantly Cusack is a stubborn character in this movie and decides to transport Freeman to the highway where help is.
What follows is a bunch of scenes in the woods with Cusack refusing to back down and Freeman telling him you’re making a mistake. Freeman’s men pursue them the rest of the movie, then random hikers accidently get involved and there’s more dialogue. Blah blah blah.
You know, I really was hoping to enjoy this one, and it just felt like something I’d be watching bored on the couch because it’s on FX or something. The whole movie takes place in the woods, so that’s pretty boring, and Freeman and Cusack barely save the movie just because they’re really good actors. Obviously there’s no recommendation here unfortunately from me, but if you randomly happen to stumble across it in the future, which I don’t see how that would happen, then perhaps curiosity will get the best of you. I’ve seen it once and that was enough for me.
