Fields – Everything Last Winter
I liked Fields so much I featured them twice during my radio show. The first song I enjoyed and was more upbeat, but it was really the second song I played, “Parasite”, that made this album for me. Fields are Nick Peill (vocals/guitars), Matty Derham (bass), Thorunn Antonia (vocals/keyboards), Jamie Putnam (guitar) and Henry Spenner (vocals/drums). From what I’ve read, it’s all Brits and one Icelandic chap in the band, but the Icelandic climax of guitar fuzz is there tenfold throughout Fields debut LP Everything Last Winter and I kept hearing comparisons to My Bloody Valentine, Sigur Ros, M83, Doves, and at times a subtle amount of Stars guy/girl harmonies about love thrown in. I didn’t hear about them during their EP buzz, in which they received two NME tracks of the weeks and toured with Editors, Bloc Party, and Snow Patrol. That’s pretty dang good for an EP and I’m happy to say they’re debut full-length is just as good. Walls of guitar, back and forth vocals, and an overall great blend between the truly epic and the truly beautiful that keeps things interesting throughout the album.

Sea Wolf – Get to the River Before It Runs Too Low
Sea Wolf is former Irving member Alex Church and his debut EP delivers some of the finest, laid back pop songs this year. “You’re a Wolf” starts the five song EP with a choir of strings and songs like “I Made a Resolution” have some great lyrics as well. You may remember “Resolution” from the radio show I just did, and if you enjoyed that song and didn’t ignore my ramblings about how good I thought it was, then do yourself a favor and pick up this jewell of an EP over at Dangerbird Records.
