A Few of My Favorites from SwedesPlease
Swedes Please is quickly becoming one of my favorite blogs. I had no idea of their existance until my post on Detektivbyran was linked by them. I went there thinking, well if they like Detektivbyran as much as I do, then they’re friends of mine. Little did I know I’d like all those Swedes’ music so much. And, being out of ideas and all today, I figured I’d highlight some of my favorite Swedish bands from that blog as of late. It’s a win-win situation really. You now know of a new, and great blog to read for the future, and you get to hear the new Detektivbyran single too, which was the whole reason this post idea came about in the first place. Let’s get on with it.
Detektivbyran
You know the story here. Great instrumental electro-folk that sounds like the Amelie soundtrack. The new single was released yesterday in Sweden. I don’t know if it’ll get a U.S. release. (original source)
Pulpa

Electro-disco, indie disco…whatever you want to call it, this seems to be the big trend in Sweden right now but I’m not complaining. As long as they pull off the sound this well, I say keep them coming. Pulpa’s probably my favorite of the indie disco Swedish bands.
The Second Band

Here’s some good, straight up Swedish pop for you. Horns galore, upbeat drums, bouncy vocals, and one happy violin in the background.
Hari and Aino

They kind of remind me of a mix of Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin with Pinback…and by mix I mean if they were holding hands while skipping through the Swedish hillsides. I listened to their album on my ipod while taking pictures of an under 12 baseball game recently and it made the game seem much happier than it probably was.
Honeymoon Over!

Possibly my favorite of the bunch. Well, besides Detektivbyran. Honeymoon Over! makes simple pop songs full of calm, electonic blips, horns, and synths that stay out of your way, but eventually creep into your head and refuse to leave once you give it a few listens. The best part is their label, Frukt Records, seems to be embracing music for music’s sake and most their releases are free to download. Of course, if you like the music enough, go there and support them.

The sites really fun, with lots of news on singles and stuff and when bands release music in the U.S. and such.
One find of mine was the band that wrote the song in this video. I don’t even remember if I listened to their other stuff, but I really liked this song.
