My Top Five Albums of the Moment
Word to the wise: Do not be hungover on June 1st…aka National Moving In Day. Let’s just say we had a little too much fun last night, then I spent most of today helping friends move in or out of their homes with a splitting headache and zero strength or energy to be carrying couches and whatnot. Needless to say, it wasn’t the best Friday I’ve ever had that’s for sure. But it was my fault so I can’t complain. Now that I’ve slept most of the day and am at about 72%, I figured I’d get out of bed and post something already. I tried to think of something people universally enjoy for this post to make everyone happy. My solution: A list! Everyone loves lists so here’s my top five albums of the moment. I should just do one of these lists every Friday since I have music A.D.D. and my top five change weekly. Either way, here’s what I’ve been listening to most lately.
1. The National - Boxer

Nothing new to say here. Check out my post from a few days ago if you missed it. Oh, I said in that post that this was the perfect album to play while cleaning up or reading during the summer…add perfect for days after you partied too hard and don’t want to get out of bed the next day.
2. Glen Hansard & Marketa Irglova - The Swell Season

I still have yet to see Once, but I now know four more people who have seen it and they all raved about it. This is the album that found the two first collaborating and it’s beautiful. Most the songs in the movie come from this album. Also, I’m still waiting to get that email interview with Glen back, but once I do you can be sure I’ll post that up for everyone to read.
3. Yann Tiersen - Goodbye Lenin! Soundtrack

If you haven’t seen this movie, do yourself a favor and find a way to watch it. It’s one of my favorites and just like with Amelie, Yann Tiersen does this movie wonders with his soundtrack. All this talk about how Detektivbyran sounded like Yann Tiersen rekindled my obsession with the composer’s music and this soundtrack in particular has been getting a lot of listens lately because of it.
Summer ’78 (ft. Claire Pichet)
4. Detektivbyran - Hemvagen EP

So good. I’ve talked about these guys enough already so if you’ve been living under a rock, or this is one of your first times here, then listen to the following mp3’s and hear for yourself why nearly everyone I’ve talked to has loved this band.
5. Margot & the Nuclear So and So’s - The Dust of Retreat

I saw them in concert back in March and have been listening to this album ever since. There’s really no comparison to their live show, so make sure to catch them on tour if you can.

Ahh, great music, all of it. I’d heard all but the songs from Once. Actually, I remember listening to a clip on that on NPR. Aren’t the songs actually sung in the movie? I really like it though, the male/female duet thing is amazing when pulled of right!
Ok and some more random suggestions.
