New Song! – Rescue Me

I’ve been writing and ultimately tweaking this song for a couple weeks now and it’s been one of the more frustrating songs I’ve ever written.  The original melody was much slower to match the opening riff, which I was too stubborn to get rid of so that’s why it’s just there in the beginning then I start the song.  I liked it too much.  But originally I had more of a slow ska upstrokes riff and that’s what I wrote the lyrics to, but it always felt too slow and my main philosophy to writing all my songs has been if I don’t enjoy singing it, then most people won’t find it interesting either.  So I doubled the speed, reverted back to my usual rapid downstrokes style and changed how I sang the words.  I also just made up the song title as I typed this, so if you come up with anything better, and not resembling the TV show, then let me know.  I’ve definitely got a horn part in mind already, and the sha-la part will be sung by a choir of my friends for the album, so if you can imagine that, then that’ll probably be the album version.  But for now, give it a listen and let me know what you think.

Rescue Me [mp3]

Lyrics (cheesy love song as usual):

I was watching the news the other day
I couldn’t help but notice every single word they’d say,
Was all about death and destruction
And everything that’s bad in this world
So I got disgusted and I stood right up
I turned the television off and I went outside.
I was determined to find at least one good thing in this world,
Then I found you.

I bet you remember what happened next,
As I stood there frozen across the street.
You gave me a smile when you looked my way,
I lost my breath and my heart skipped a beat.
So I turned around not knowing what to do
I went back inside away from you.
Turned the television on back to the news
A world of death and destruction…
A world without you.

So here I am sitting on the living room floor again
Contemplating what I’d just done.
Did I really just walk away from the girl of my dreams?
From the one I need
I could still be out there with you smiling at me
But instead I’m all alone again watching TV.
Maybe I’ll get a second chance
Who am I kidding?

I need you in my life
to make it feel complete
All I ask is just one thing
That you come and rescue me
From all the thing surrounding us
Trying to bring me down
Well, none of that seems to bother me
As long as you’re around.

25 years has gone by since then
I bet you remember that day well
Nothing’s changed, our world’s still falling apart
But at least I’ve got you.

hey! stop calling them cheesy love songs, they’re good! Although I agree about the changing of the name. There’s way too many songs out there titled “Remind Me”. I so had another name for it that just popped into my head when I was cleaning my room and now I went and forgot it! ugh! But yeah, it’s great as usual!

I really like your music!
Can’t wait to hear more songs!
