Fionn Regan – The End of History
Slowly becoming a front-runner for album of the year for me, Regan’s The End of History is simple in an elegantly complex way (and nominee for the 2007 Nationwide Mercury Prize). Most songs are just Fionn and his guitar, but the fingerpicking is often times so impressive you could swear there’s more than just him playing on the track. The songs that do get the full band treatment are just as good. I was introduced to him with the description of “the Austrailian Damien Rice”, and while it may slightly sound that way on a song or two, I’d just say he’s placed himself firmly among the top singer/songwriters of today with The End of History. Definitely a must have album in a year that has been full of amazing music.
