Parade

Every now and then I actually live up to my vow to always try to help the little bands. I always say how helping bands is my life and I’m slowly getting to the point where I truly can with both the blog and mainly my record label. Today’s finally one of those days.
Among the various emails I hazily read last night after my insanely long day at work was a simple email from Carrie, the lead singer of the band Parade. It just said who she was, that she liked my blog, and asked if I wanted to hear their stuff. That may seem like nothing to you, but to me the fact that she had the guts to email me directly says a lot. Bands rarely ever email me personally. I can see where they’re coming from though. I’ve yet to contact any of the big music bloggers everyone knows about. Matt from You Ain’t No Picasso, Chris from GvB, the duo from I Guess I’m Floating, etc. I’m too stubborn to steal their readers and always figured they didn’t want to be bothered by yet another music blogger. But it’s those kind of assumptions that are the same reason people never contact me even though I love it when they do. So, when Carrie (blonde girl above) emailed me directly, I completely respect that and am more than happy to write a lengthy post about them. So, here it is.
Parade are four friends from Athens and Atlanta, Georgia. Their music finds it’s niche somewhere in the quiet soundscape of Rilo Kiley, Metric, or Stars’ slower songs. I’d lean more towards the Stars sound myself in describing them. They’ve self-released an EP and a full-length so far and are self-releasing a new EP mid-July. I’m a fan so far of the mp3’s they’ve made available from their full-length, but they’re all good in their own way. I’m hoping there’s at least a few of you out there that enjoy Parade’s music. I tend to enjoy music much more when I have a personal connection with the band, but I’m here to vouche for the music as well. Give them a listen and if you like them, stop by their myspace and send them a message. And honestly, don’t assume you’ll bother me if you email me about your band, or even if you’re not in a band and want to talk music. You know what assuming makes out of people, and I’ve got about 6 or 7 people I’ve met since I started writing the blog because they contacted me directly and now I talk to them about all things music and the like almost on a daily basis.
So, listen to Parade, throw them a message if you enjoy them, and don’t be shy to send one my way as well. At the least I may mention you on my blog. Or perhaps you may end up joining my elite circle of “met through my blog” friends that are scattered around the country. I’ll just have to wait and see if any of you contact me.

I have TWO (2) tickets to the Pitchfork Music Festival in Chicago for Saturday only that I won a couple months ago. Unfortunately I can’t go b/c of work obviously, but it dawned on me that maybe someone in the Chicago area might want them. I asked my mom what the overnight mailing price could possibly be and she gave a guesstimate of around $15. I don’t know how accurate that is, but if anyone wants them, I think I can get them to you by Saturday by sending them tomorrow overnight. All I’d ask is to be reimbursed for the shipping I spend plus maybe five bucks or something. So, two tickets to Pitchfork Festival in Chicago for Saturday only for $20? I’d negotiate obviously since I won them and don’t really need to make any profit off them, but let me know if you’re interested. The bands playing Saturday are below. I would’ve thought of this earlier had I not been so tired. Email me if you might want the tickets.
