Seabear – The Ghost That Carried Us Away

Stressed out? Seabear is here to help.
I had the intentions all along of writing a post on Seabear today after reading YANP’s post yesterday, then Puddlegum’s even more indepth post, but their album The Ghost That Carried Us Away has struck me even more now that I’ve come home from work exhausted and threw the album on. Not since Sleep Music or American Analog Set has a band’s music just begged to be used as music to fall asleep to. I did it yesterday after reading Matt’s post where he said it’s great for that very reason, saying oh yeah, then proceeding to take one heck of a nap with Seabear on repeat. It’s truly lovely music indeed.
The Ghost is two days old in my music library but most every second I’ve been in my room during those two days, Seabear has been on repeat. They’re from Iceland, so that alone should raise some eyebrows from fans of Sigur Ros and other beautiful noise makers from the land that arguably produces the most beautiful music on the planet. One day when I’m a big singer/songwriter that is famous worldwide (yeah right), I’m traveling to Iceland for a year and writing music with all the bands from that country I can collaborate with. I guarantee you that album would be my best ever hand down. But that’s for the future.
Seabear, I feel, are about to become my new Icelandic obsession and I know you guys well enough to know that the majority of you are really going to like them. “Hospital Bed” is my favorite song, with wonderful string parts, and other stand-outs include “I Sink I Swim”, “Arms”, and “Good Morning Scarecrow”. The Ghost That Carried Us Away won’t be for everyone, but that all kind of depends on what time of day you listen to it and what mood you’re in. All it takes is that one listen through when you’re sleepy, relaxed, and want nothing but to be sang asleep. Then, you’ll find a tiny place in your musical heart for Seabear. Until then, this album may just sit in your playlist lonely and waiting to be heard, which is perfectly understandable, but it’d be a shame for one to never experience that perfect moment for Seabear’s music. That moment will come eventually, I swear.

probably the best idea i’ve heard yet, travelling to iceland, collaborating with icelandic bands.
and i certainly don’t disagree, iceland has the most beautiful music ever!
