New Final Fantasy – “Hey Dad” ft. Beirut

In my impatience to hear new music from Owen Pallett, I began searching for info on his upcoming album Heartland. What I basically found everywhere was that it’s probably going to be a fall ‘08 release, mainly because he keeps getting collaboration gigs like writing strings for Beirut’s amazing The Flying Club Cup and Arcade Fire’s Neon Bible. I’m in no way complaining about those collaborations, because both times his contributions really made the albums as great as they were. I’m just eager to hear more of his original stuff. What I did find was a new song that has been around forever live, but one that he just worked with Zach Condon of Beirut to finally get it recorded. I think it sounds great and while the recorded version is only streaming, I did find a live version you can download if you so please. If you ever wondered what an Owen Pallett/Sufjan Stevens collaboration would sound like, look no further than “Hey Dad”. I’ll link to Stereogum’s post since that’s where I first found it, but you can go to Final Fantasy’s myspace and hear it there as well.

I love the girl that travels with him working with only paper creating all the background scenes.

I also found this great interview over at the Torture Garden.
