New Sondre Lerche – Dan in Real Life Soundtrack

What a charming little feel good movie this turned out to be. By the end of it I was all smiles and really glad I sat down to watch it. During the first couple scenes I remember thinking, “hey, it’s Sondre Lerche!”. Then another scene came up and I was like, “that’s a very Sondre sounding instrumental part”. By the end of the movie I realized that all the music was Sondre and not since About a Boy had I left the movie wanting to immediately get the soundtrack. I left out Once there because I knew I’d want the soundtrack to that, but Dan in Real Life, just like About a Boy found Badly Drawn Boy doing, see Sondre writing all new songs and instrumentals just for the movie. And they’re not just kind of alright new songs like Britt Daniels’ were on the Stranger than Fiction soundtrack. I’ve been listening to Sondre’s soundtrack on repeat since watching the movie last night. It’s that good.
There are plenty of stand-outs, but the main two have to be his new duet with Regina Spektor in “Hell No”, and his string filled cover of Pete Townshend’s “Let My Love Open the Door”, which Steve Carell played acoustic in one of the more touching parts of the movie. Fans of Sondre Lerche have no reason not to check this soundtrack out as it’s new Sondre and it’s great. As for the movie itself, it’s simple, funny, and uplifting like most feel good movies out there, but this one just felt a bit smarter than the rest. I highly recommend it, especially if you’ve got a date around your arms, and wouldn’t hesitate to put it in my top 10 movies of this year.
