The Mabuses – Mabused

I hadn’t heard much about the Mabuses before someone sent me their album and I couldn’t stop listening to it. Story has it that this is their first release in over a decade, so they’re in no way new to the scene. But they’re new to me and I’m loving their hard-to-classify tunese. At times they sound like Tuung (Glass Eyed Pitter Patter), while other times they sound like Super Furry Animals (I’m the Greatest), the Beatles (the Greatest), or psychodelic orchestra music (Garden Devils). Regardless of what they sound like, it all sounds great. Fans of ear candy albums that throw all sorts of production bells and whistles at you that you need three or four listens through to hear everything, then this is the album for you. Most of what I want to say has already been said over at Stereogum’s post, where they’re also streaming the entire album, so definitely head over there and check that out.

I’d say more, as this album does warrant some serious praise, but I honestly don’t know what to say, so I’ll just leave you with the few songs they have available to download and let you listen for yourself. Don’t forget about Stereogum streaming the album either.

P.S.  Recommended songs to stream first once you get there: I’m the Greatest through Garden Devils I guess are the best songs on the album.  But definitely those two and all in between.  Hell, the whole album’s good, but start with those if you’re in a rush.
