I Need Your Help!
I drew my aunt’s name for Christmas this year and since one, I’m poor, and two, I hate just buying crap and giving it to people, I’ve come up with the following gift idea for her. First of all, she loves her two dogs more than anything, so I’m having my sister paint a painting of them based on a photo of the dogs she had. But, you know I can’t go without giving her some sort of music related present. That’d be ridiculous. So, here’s my idea.
Her whole backyard is a garden, and that’s what she does in the summer all the time. I noticed they had speakers outside so she could listen to music while she gardened. Perfect I thought. I’ll make her a mix CD for her to play while gardening. But, I know way to much music to just whittle it down to 12 or so songs. So, I’m gonig to make 5-10 mix CD’s all full of specific music fitting whatever word I write on the CD like sad, garden, sleep, etc. I can obviously do this on my own, but I thought it’d be fun to get some song input from you guys since a couple hundred minds thinking of songs to fit works better than my own. So, look at the words below, each being a cd, and if any songs come to mind immediately, leave me a comment and hopefully I end up with some great suggestions I’d never have thought of. Then, I’ll post the best 3 or so as upcoming Perch Mixes. Sound good? Alright, I look forward to hearing what you guys come up with.
CD 1: Garden (good, relaxing songs to work in the garden to)
2: Orchestra (ex. Andrew Bird, Final Fantasy)
3: Sleep (Sigur Ros, Iron and Wine)
4: Sad (Okkervil River, Margot)
5: Love (Ryan Adams, Damien Rice)
6: Dance! (!!!, LCD Soundsystem)
7: Soundtrack (Probably use my Amelie/Tenenbaums/Aquatic/Rushmore mix)
8: Happy (Format, Ben Folds)
9: Road Trip (Arcade Fire, no real criteria here)
10: Christmas (Sufjan, Deathcab, there’s all sorts of indie Christmas stuff)
Look at these themes and list any and all songs that come to your mind. Most of you never comment, but today is one of those days that I’d love to see a bunch of comments. Here’s a song I know I’m putting on my Garden mix.
Wild Sweet Orange – Ten Dead Dogs
(the stream thing is screwed up for some reason, lowers the pitch of the song making them sound sleepy and super deep vocals)
Edit:
Here’s a good video I just found of that song live

I’m going to guess that your Aunt is really open to all different genres of music right?
I can brainstorm more, I’m just about to head out the door, but here’s one for the Relaxing/Garden category or Sleep too: Claes Bjorklund. look for him on myspace.
and the christmas song, I always like is Christmas Wrapping by The Waitresses.
