Chris Walla - Sing Again video

I’ve been listening to Chris Walla’s new album Field Manual with intense curiosity because I honestly didn’t know what to expect.  I’d say it’s definitely no Death Cab sounding side project, but the more I hear the album, the more I change my mind.  I think my favorite part is the fact that it sounds very similar to the music of The Wrens.  Some of you may not be familiar with The Wrens, but their album The Meadowlands is one of my all time fav’s, and “Sing Again” would fit nicely on that album.  Regardless, I really like the album and it’s first single, “Sing Again”, and think it’s a welcome new addition to my 2008 collection that’s already surprisingly great.  There’s more cameos in this video than I’ve even figured out, but you may figure out more than me.  There’s some Decemberists, Ben Gibbard, maybe Tegan or Sara, I hear that’s Jeff Tweedy’s child, Ben Folds, one of the guys from Menomena, and who knows how many more.  It’s a cool video featuring cameos from all sorts of cool people.

Dude, thanks for the video and the excellent comparison to The Wrens. I listened to the song for a second time in a whole new light (with the Wrens Hopeless type feeling). You may have saved me from giving up on his album too quickly. Chris is amazing with is producing other bands and Death Cab work. But my favorite of his work is his still has to be his production of The Velvet Teen’s First album titled “Out of the Fierce Parade”. TVT other albums went downhill after that sadly.

Thanks again!

the Life Aquatic? eh.
i had to write a Spotlight piece on this album for the Relevant Mag. it was challenging, because i didn’t think the album was particularly “spotlight-worthy,” but Walla’s got something going on for sure. i get that Jimmy Eat World Emo vibe from him. which is cool, right?
