Kenna - Make Sure They See My Face

First off, Herbie Hancock? I read Cracked.com’s newest list of the biggest Grammy snubs and why the Grammy’s never were that important, and seeing that final album of the year selection cracked me up. Of course, look who he was going up against. Foo Fighters, Vince Gill, Amy Winehouse, and Kanye West? I mean, c’mon. I won’t even bother naming off albums I feel are far more deserving. I already gave my top 50 list. I’m guessing it’s a bunch of old dudes in a room saying, “that sounds like something I used to listen to! Grammy!”, then they award the Grammy to that artist, which is a statue of a super old record player. That’s indication enough the Grammy’s are outdated.
Anyway. Let’s talk about Kenna, what I listened to most of last week while sick. I’ve been a secret fan of Kenna since I first saw the amazing video for “Hell Bent” and his follow-up album, Make Sure They See My Face, is more of the same. I looked the album up because Tyler and I started listening to his debut album again and I was curious to hear the new one he’d released not too long ago.
We both took an immediate liking to his new album and “Out of Control” was on in Tyler’s car every time we went somewhere. For all you looking for comparisons, the best I’ve got is Dredg if they went hip-hop. I’ve got nothing for you if you’re not familiar with Dredg. Kenna’s not for everyone, that’s the main reason I said I was always secretly a fan, but now that he’s got another album under his belt, I have to problem recommending him to anyone that’s curious.
Out of Control (State of Emergency)
Bonus:
Hell Bent
Super Bonus:
Dredg - Bug Eyes

Kenna is absolute gold. New Sacred Cow was such a good album that after I d/led it I proceeded to buy a copy. That’s my exhibit A whenever anyone tries to tell me mp3s kill album sales. I still have to pick up Make Sure They See My Face, but I have no doubt it’s killer. One day there will be a movie made of the comic series The Invisibles and every song on the soundtrack will be by Kenna. Mark my words.
