Review of Why?’s “Alopecia” at Relevant Magazine

Dylan has been a long time virtual friend that I met a while back through the blog and we’ve since had numerous great conversations about all the indie albums that have come and gone, being labeled as our “current favorite”.  That label has now been passed on to Why? and their amazing new album Alopecia.  I wrote up a decent sized post not too long ago about this album after I’d listened to it for maybe a week, and while I really liked it then, I’ve since given it a much more thorough listen and I almost agree with Dylan’s “best album so far this year” statement from his review.  I’d put it at #3 behind Boris Yeltsin and Cloud Cult, but still, #3 ain’t bad considering the fact that I have over 30 albums in my 2008 folder and it’s only March.

If you want experimental pop/hip hop/?  music, with some crazy lyrics like the one Dylan quotes from the song “Fatalist Palmistry” – ” i sleep on my back cause it’s good for the spine/and coffin rehersal/i know a psychic who reads her own palms/and the findings are personal/she keeps her fists shut tight and she sleeps on her side/well maybe she knows something i don’t know” – then you’ll love this new Why? album.  I’d review it myself, but I already wrote up that earlier post, and Dylan’s is just so much better than mine would be, so just head over there and read away.
