Does It Offend You, Yeah?

I don’t normally listen to dance music willingly unless I’m dancing at Mixology, our local indie dance club we hit up every Friday night, or if the band has a unique sound I simply can’t ignore.  Seeing the headline Does It Offend You, Yeah? on an email, I became quite intrigued.  Was I going to be offended by this promo?  Then, I realized that was the name of the band and I thought that was a ridiculous name.  Since I’d already opened the email, I clicked on the youtube link for their song “We are Rockstars” and instantly started dancing.  Not because it was a great dance song, which it is, but because Black Box Revue, the DJ’s playing Mixology every Friday, played that song every week.  So, of course I went ahead and checked out the whole album, and man am I glad I did.

“We Are Rockstars” is their big single and it shows their main electronic/dance side.  What kept me listening to the album though wasn’t those intense dance songs, but the almost Cure sounding songs scattered throughout the album.  I can’t decide if I enjoy the album more because of the constant back and forth between pure dance songs and 80’s feeling dance rock songs with great singing, or less because I wish they would have just skipped the crazy dance songs and went with this 80’s sound that I’m loving more and more with each additional listen.  Either way, their debut album You Have No Idea What You’re Getting Yourself Into is available now digitally from their site, and physically April 15th.  It’s really rare for me to be so into a dance album like this, so I suggest you take note.  The Perch approves of Does It Offend You, Yeah?  Now, let’s dance!
