New Final Fantasy Songs

Not too long ago, Stereogum had a few new songs from Final Fantasy featured exclusive to his blog.  If you know me at all, you know my love for Owen Pallett’s music.  Sure, it’s strange at times, and it’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but I love it.  So, any new Final Fantasy stuff is great news in my book.

From the info I’ve gathered, Pallett is releasing two EP’s in the next month or so full of all new stuff.  First is Spectrum, 14th Century, which is a collaboration he did with Beirut, and is kind of a musical map of a fictional land called Spectrum, which he and the musicians from Beirut try and create through their music.  I’d be scratching my head at the idea if it was anyone but Pallett.

The second EP is called Plays to Please, and finds Pallett reimagining the songs of Alex Lukashevsky’s band Deep Dark United into arrangements for a 35 piece big band called St. Kitts Orchestra, which features a member from the Hidden Camera and even Andrew Bird’s whistling.

I’ll let you head over to the Stereogum post to read more of the details, but Spectrum will be released on 9/30, and Plays is released 10/21, both with limited 1,000 cd pressings.  I’ll put the links below to the places you can buy them if any of you are interested.  Either way, listen to these new Final Fantasy tracks and hopefully most of you get as excited as I am to finally hear a new Final Fantasy full-length.  There’s no official word on the date for the upcoming full-length that I’ve heard, but I’ll let you know as soon as I do.
