Pitchfork Reveals Its Top Albums of 2008

Ah, the infamous list. I saw the link on someone’s blog, gave a slight chuckle, then said what the heck, I’ll check it out. I’m working on my list at the moment, and I can say it’s drastically different from Pitchfork’s, but that could be based on a variety of factors. My life has been nothing but a whirlwind of business since we took LemonDrop Records live and took on more bands. That led to 12 hour days trying to juggle the label and my day job. Add to that the fact that there’s hanging out with the gang to do almost every night once I get home, and you get an A.D.D. music obsessed blogger forced to pick and choose the music I listen to much more than in years past. My 2008 folder is still close to 100 or so albums deep, but that’s nowhere near last year’s number, when I still had a lot more time on my hands. But one thing that did happen as a result is I got to “experience” more albums this year instead of just listening to the “it” albums I really enjoyed for a couple weeks and moving on, making sure to make a note somewhere that I enjoyed this album for a couple weeks and it should make my year end list. It’s safe to say my top 10 albums this year will truly be ones I couldn’t get enough of this year.
But, I’ll probably go into more of that detail later when I get to writing my list, but for now check out Pitchfork’s year end list and let me know what you think. I don’t know a lot of the albums on this list, because of me being so busy I’d say, but there’s some a completely agree with, and others I don’t at all. But isn’t that what year end lists are there for? I am happy for Fleet Foxes though, if only for the fact that they’re on Sub Pop, and I have a bias for Sub Pop bands now since I interned for the label. But yeah, enough rambling. Let me know which albums on the list you agree with and which you can’t believe even made the list. (the more opinionated the comments the better)

I have grown disillusioned with Pitchfork’s opinions. However, I am looking forward to your 2008 album wrap-up. Guaranteed it is better than their pretentious uppity gibberish.
