Bon Iver’s New Band Volcano Choir and Their First Single
So, Justin Vernon (Bon Iver) has teamed up with the guys in the band Collections of Colonies of Bees to form a new band called Volcano Choir. It’s a project they began almost three years ago and a release date for the collaborative album has been set. September 22nd is that date and it’ll be released by Jagjaguwar. I didn’t know who Collections were until 10 minutes ago, but just from listening to their myspace, I can tell I’d love them. Think Minus the Bear meets Mogwai. All instrumental and very technical. Just like I like my post rock. This first single, “Island, IS”, is fantastic. I have no idea what the album will end up sounding like, but this song took me by surprise and sounds almost like a Bon Iver/Animal Collective collaboration if anything. A lot more experimental than his Bon Iver stuff, and this should be an amazing album.
