    I love Manchester Orchestra, and have just now started getting into Kevin Devine’s music.  His tunes are proving to be great as well, but I found a cover project over at Spinner randomly today that had them cover each others’ songs.  Both covers are great, and whenever something strikes my fancy, you know I’ll be sharing it on here.  So, check out the covers below and enjoy.

    Mark your calendars for January 19th folks.  That’s the release date for RJD2’s first album since 2007’s The Third Hand, called The Colossus.  Depending on your take on Vampire Weekend, whose new album Contra comes out Tuesday, you may be more excited for RJD2’s new one over Vampire Weekend’s.  I’m probably equally excited about both, but the fact that The Colossus is still a mystery to me as to what it sounds like, I’ll give it the upper hand for the moment.

    What caught my ear, and the whole reason I’m writing this little preview post is the fact that Kenna guest sings on the first single, “Games You Can Win”.  If this song is any indication of what the rest of the album will sound like, then this could very well be RJD2’s best album in a long time.  We’ll have to wait and see.  For now, give that first single a listen and be sure to pick up the new album when it comes out in a couple weeks.

    Jack and the gang from Steel Train have a new EP coming out called Steel Train is Here and they’re giving away the song “You and I Undercover” for free if you sign up for their mailing list.  Listen to the stream below, but I think that’s a pretty fair trade considering how good the song is.  Of course, you know how I’m a sucker for strings in any song, and I’m a big fan of their last album, Trampoline, so I may be just a bit bias.  Either way, check out the new song and look for their new EP (I think it’s tour only, I can’t find the order link online), on tour, then their new album, which comes out early next year.

    Look at this!  Seems like yours truly might be using imeem’s embeddable feature a lot more if it means you can stream whole albums.  If you haven’t listened to the album, by all means give the stream below a healthy listen.  It’s fun and makes me want to see the movie ridiculously bad.

    I’m going to start mixing in smaller posts like this with my regular posts to get more content to you guys.  My inbox is swimming in a million “listen to this band!” emails and I want to get most of it out of my inbox and into your headphones.  So, here we go.  This is the new music video for “Battlefields” by Sole & the Skyrider Band, and even though it’s not my usual genre I post about, I still love me some good hip hop and the accompanying video is pretty dang sweet.  Sole is one of the founding members of the Anticon collective, which has everyone from Why? to 13 & God on it.  Add to this the fact that Markus Archer of the Notwist sings the chorus on “Battlefields” and you’ve got yourself a winner in my book.  Check out the video and the mp3 link for another song off the upcoming album, Plastique, called “Black” below.
